Application of “SPACE TECHNOLOGY” for societal needs has brought unimaginable changes in the human lives on this planet “Earth”.

All the space faring nations are celebrating the WORLD SPACE WEEK during 4th – 10th October every year to enthuse the international community towards more and more applications of Space Technology for the humankind. 4th October signifies the launch of 1st Satellite, Sputnik-1 in 1957.

Satish Dhawan Space Centre SHAR, Sriharikota the “Spaceport of India”, one of the lead Centers under the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), is organising World Space Week – 2016 at 14 different places in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana & Tamilnadu from 04th October to 10th October to propagate the benefits of Indian Space Programme to majority of Scientific, Academic and General public which will stimulate the young minds and reap benefits for future generations.

The activities planned for SHAR-Sullurupeta areas are as follows:
1. Inauguration of WSW–2016 : 04th October, 2016; 09:15 hrs at MRK Auditorium
2. Technical Visit to SDSC SHAR facilities from 04th -7th October, 2016 – Space Museum, FLP, SLP and New MCC building including opportunity to witness Sounding Rocket launches on 04th, 5th and 6th of October, 2016
3. Walk for Space Week: 08th October, 2016 @ 07:30 hrs from DOS Colony school grounds to Junior College grounds at Sullurupeta.
4. Valedictory Function: 08th October, 2016; 09;30 hrs at Junior College grounds Sullurupeta.

For School Students:
1. Quiz competitions on WSW – 2016 theme.

For Employees of SDSC SHAR:
1. Space Slogan Writing Competition :
Space Slogan Writing Competition based on WSW-2016 theme. The entries have to be submitted before 6th October, 2016; 16:00 hrs.

2. Poster Competition :
Poster Competition based on WSW-2016 theme: The entries have to be submitted before 6th October, 2016; 16:00 hrs.

3. Essay Writing Competition:
Essay Writing Competition based on WSW – 2016 theme: The Competition will be held on 5th October, 2016; 14:30 hrs @ SCC Conference Hall, Keepakam Area.

4. Quiz Competition:
Questions will be based on Space Activities and the competition will be held on 6th October, 2016; 14:30 hrs @BP Hall.

For Employees and their dependents:
1. Space Rangoli Competitions:
At two venues – 1.Arjuna Hall for SHAR colony Residents, 2.KRP Multi Purpose Hall for residents of KRP colony, DOS colony DRDL colony. The competitions will be coordinated by the SWAS office bearers of respective colonies. Kindly contact them for further details.

The first three prize winners will be awarded in the Valedictory function on 08th October, 2016 at 09:30 hrs at Jr. College grounds
