State & NE Zonal Level Science Drama Competition 2015 :
Regional Science Centre, Guwahati shall be organizing a State Level Science Drama Competition for schools’ students on 14th October, 2015 in its premises.
Competition Dates : 13th October 2015 (State Level), 15th October 2015 (NE Zonal Level)
The best Drama team in the State level competition will represent Assam in the NE Zonal Level Science Drama competition to be held at the same venue on 16th October, 2015. This Drama competition is an annual event of this Centre.
The aim of this programme is to encourage the students and teachers to explore and experiment with the dramatic form as a means of science communication. The Science Drama Competition is organised progressively at District, State, Zonal and eventually culminate at the National Level which will be held at Birla Industrial & Technological Museum, Kolkata in January, 2015. The theme and sub-themes of this Science Drama
Competition are as follows :

i) Life and Works of Scientists’
ii) Light and Life
iii) Save our soil
iv) Cleanliness and Health
v) Science in daily life
vi) Innovate or Perish
Regional Science Centre, Guwahati shall reimburse the travel cost by Railway (2nd Class) or Bus to all the drama teams from their place to Guwahati and back on production of valid tickets/ documents. The Centre shall also provide fooding and accommodation for the drama teams during their stay in Guwahati from 13th to 15th October, 2015.

Rules and Regulations :
Participation:
School teams comprising of students up to class X can participate.
A. Drama Team size: Maximum eight students (characters) in a team.
B. Guide Teacher/ Director: one
C. Language(s):
Assamese, Hindi, English or State’s Local language (official)
D. Script:
Should be written in a manner to convey the underlying socioscientific message based on any of the above sub-themes while retaining the fundamental elements of drama. Teams will have to submit English translation of the script to the organizer well before staging the drama.
Note:
In order to get ideas about how to write a good science drama script on the suggested theme and sub-themes, schools may organize a workshop involving the teachers. Script writing competition may also be organized at the school level.
E. Production:
The Drama has to be an in-house production of the school including scripting, direction, and acting. Teacher may be involved as script-writer / director but will not act.
F. Duration:
Duration of the drama should not be more than 30 minutes.
G. Costumes, Props & Dramatic Elements:
The drama can have costumes, special props, lighting effects, background sound or music, dance, mime or any other necessary items/elements to augment dramatic appeal and delivery of the scientific message. However, individual teams will be responsible for arranging/bringing such items.
H. Stage Setting:
Concerned drama team(s) should be responsible for stagesetting as per their own requirement and be able to set up the props and other necessary requirements on stage within 5 minutes.
Judgment (100 marks) :
Each Drama (script, direction, team performance& individual performance) shall be evaluated by a distinguished panel of judges comprising of experts from the fields of both drama and science on the basis of the following criteria:
a) Scientific content = 30
b) Presentation = 50
c) Effectiveness = 20
Prizes:
Following prizes will be awarded as per the judges’ decision in the State and Zonal
Level Science Drama Competitions:
1. Best Drama – Three Prizes (First, Second & Third Prizes)
2. Best Director – One Prize
3. Best Scriptwriter – One Prize
4. Best Actor – One Prize
5. Best Actress – One Prize
