Essay Writing Competition:
As part of the celebration of Statistics Day on 29th June, 2017, the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation (MoSPI) will organize an essay writing competition on subjects relevant to Statistics.

The interested Post Graduate students of Statistics currently studying in recognized university/colleges are invited to participate in the ‘On-the-Spot’ Essay Writing Competition- 2017.
The details of the competition are as under:
1. Two topics of essay would be given on the spot. The Essay should be written on one of the topics in about 5000 words in the prescribed time limit of three hours.
2. Each eligible candidate will be requested through a separate communication to appear for the competition at the designated center or at the nearest Regional Office or Sub Regional Office of National Sample Survey Office for writing the essay. No TA/DA will be paid for appearing in the competition.
The list of the Regional/Sub Regional Offices may be seen on the Ministry’s website, Nearest Regional Office or Sub Regional Office may be mentioned in the application form. The Ministry reserves the right to allot a center other than opted by the candidate.
3. The candidates should submit their application (in duplicate) in the prescribed format (the application format can be downloaded from the Ministry’s website through the Head of the Department of the College/ University/Institute and submit the same to

The last date for the receipt of applications will be 13-01-2017. The Competition will be held on 12th February 2017 (Sunday) from 11.00 AM to 2.00 PM.
4. The essays will be evaluated by a Committee constituted by MoSPI on the basis of contents, originality of ideas, Sequence of presentation and writing skills. Names of winners will be published on ministry’s website. The winners will also be notified in writing.
5. Number of prizes are as under:-
** One First Prize Rs 15,000/-
** Two Second Prizes Rs. 12,000/- (each)
** Three Third Prizes Rs. 10,000/- (each)
** Five Consolation prizes Rs. 5,000/- (each)
6. The winners are awarded with certificates along with cash prize as given above. The winners of the competition will be invited to a function likely to be organized in New Delhi to receive the prizes. The winners coming to receive the prizes will be entitled to receive fares of their to and fro journey through shortest route by rail in AC-III tier or the actual amount spent, whichever is less. Stay arrangements at New Delhi will also be done by the Ministry.
