With the motto of ‘Education and Research’, PCERF undertake various activities, including PCERF- Padmashree B.G Shirke Vidyarthi Competition’, which is organised every year and supported by ‘B.G Shirke & Co’.

This Competition aims at enkindling the thoughts and skills of the students to come with efficient way of thinking in various facets of the construction practices and it endeavours to motivate students for emerging with the research culture as well as inculcating the research aptitude in budding engineers.
With an aim to provide platform to work in unison with all the stakeholders (viz. Students, Academic Institute / University and Industry) in the construction Industry, so as to evolve ways & means for more efficient use of construction practices and provide optimum value to the customer.
This competition was initially organized in Pune but now, it has reached beyond geographical locations of Pune. The competition is organized for Civil Engineering/Architecture students at Under Graduate and Post Graduate level the same receives a high participation of students from Pune, Mumbai, Nasik, Ahmednagar etc.
At the initial level student entries are screened by the respective HOD’s, before forwarding to PCERF. At the second level, PCERF appoints Advisory committee, consisting of members from Civil Engineering and Architecture faculties, which short list these entries out of the total number of entries received, based on standard criteria, which are defined at the start of the competition.
These short listed entries are categorised in four groups- each from UG and PG of Architecture and Civil Engineering. PCERF appoints Jury panel, consisting of senior Architecture and Civil Engineering professionals and the short listed students are further screened by the Jury panel, which is the final stage of this competition.
After this interaction, Jury panel select winners from each group as mentioned above and they are felicitated with a cash award, a trophy and a certificate each. All participants of the competition receive “Certificate of Participation”.
Encouraged with the student’s participation, PCERF is now planning to take this competition forward, and make it a Maharashtra state level competition.
The competition is organized with following objectives:
To motivate the students toward developing the R&D attitude in emerging technology
To enkindle the thoughts and skills of the students to come with efficient way of thinking
To develop Industry-Institute relations
To seek a solution for the identified problems faced by the construction industry
