Budding Scientist Contest 2015:
The Hindu In School in association with The Lead India 2020 foundation and SNR Sons College will conduct ‘Budding scientist contest’ on October 15 at the SNR Auditorium at 10 a.m. to celebrate the birth anniversary of late former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
Objective
A release from the organisers said that the objective of holding the contest was to inculcate scientific temper in students and help them showcase their talents.
Students in Coimbatore would have to come up with exhibits on ‘Reclamation of water bodies in Coimbatore city’ or ‘Resources of Renewable Energy’ or ‘Community health and hygiene’.
Schools should send two best projects – one each in the junior and senior categories – in line with the project themes with only two students a project/team.
The event is to inculcate scientific temper in students and help them to showcase their talents.
Students from Coimbatore, Tirupur, and The Nilgiris Districts will have to come up with exhibits on reclamation of water bodies in Coimbatore, resource of renewable energy and community health and hygiene
Schools should send two best projects one each in the junior and senior categories – in line with the project themes with only two students in a project/team.
The organisers will invite the students behind the nominated projects to the venue to give a five minute presentation and also take questions from Judges.
The organisers will select two exhibits (a winner and runner up) in each of the two categories.
The winners will be given prizes and participation certificates with consolation prizes to other participants. The first prize will be Rs.10,000; second prize Rs.7,500 and third prize Rs.5,000.
The junior category students will be from standards 5 to 7 and seniors from standards 8 to 10.

The organisers would invite the students behind the nominated projects to the venue to give a five-minute presentation and also take questions from judges.
The organisers would select two exhibits (a winner and runner up) in each of the two categories.
They would reward the winners with prizes and give participation certificates with consolation prizes to other participants.
The junior category students were those from Classes five, six and seven and seniors were those from Classes eight, nine and 10, the press release said.
The contest was also conducted in Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, New Delhi, Kolkata, Kochi, Madurai, Vishakapatnam and Vijayawada.
