The tenth edition of IGBC Green Design Competition is back with the theme GREEN TRANSIT SHELTERS FOR CONSTRUCTION WORKERS
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS :
Participation/ Registration :
1. When is the last date for registration?
A. 17th October, 2015
2. How many members can a team have?
A. A maximum of two members.
3. Can the team members be from different colleges?
A. Yes. You would need to register as separate teams and send a mail to info[AT]ethosindia.in stating that you would like to work together.
4. Can we add or remove or change a team member after registration?
A. You could ask the new member to register as a separate team and send a mail to info[AT]ethosindia.in stating that you would like to work together.
5. Who is eligible to participate in the Competition?
A. Anyone who is a student of Architecture and Design at the time of registration is eligible to participate.
Submission :
1. What is the format of the submission? A.
** A maximum of 4 A3 sheets excluding the cover sheet shall be sent only as soft copy to ethosindia.helpdesk[AT]gmail.com.
** The soft copies should be sent as pdf presentations or power point presentations to be compatible with Microsoft office 2007.
** Please do not write your names inside any of the sheets.
** Name your entry as your name/college name
** While mailing, in the subject box please write: IGBC 2015 – your name/college name
2. When is the last date of submission?
A. Submissions to reach the above address by October 24th, 2015
Brief
1. What kind of site is to be chosen?
A. You are to choose an existing housing site, or an under construction housing site.
2. Can sites other than Housing be chosen?
A. No. Please choose only a housing site which shall be the common factor for all entries, thus putting them on a level ground for judging.
Site :
– Option 1: EXISTING HOUSING SITE
** You could pick a site which already has a housing built mass.
** Identify the ground coverage, and the ratio of open-to-built mass.
** Plan and design your transit shelters accordingly, for a time when this particular housing plot was under construction.
– Option 2: UNDER CONSTRUCTION HOUSING SITE
** Pick a site allotted for housing, which is presently under construction.
** Identify the ground coverage, and the ratio of open-to-built mass.
** Plan and design your transit shelters accordingly.
Site area: The minimum and maximum area for the site to be chosen should be between 3 ha and 6 ha.
The strength of the solution would lie in its simplicity and replicability.
Byelaws:
The byelaws will be as per the site chosen.
Steps:
a. Identify a site: existing housing project / under construction housing site – between 3 and 6 hectares of site.
b. Identify buildable area for the transit shelters respecting the byelaws.
c. Identify the number of workers/ families that need to be housed during construction for the particular scale of housing project.
d. Identify the life-span of these transit shelters to be designed for the particular scale of housing project.
e. Design environmentally sustainable transit shelters for this number. They need to be self-sufficient and efficient in nature, with minimal wastage.
f. Prepare a business pitch along with the proposed design idea, for the developer whose housing site you have chosen.
g. Design the ways of reuse and recycle of the shelter once the construction on site is done.
Eligibility: Open to all undergraduate students of Architecture, Planning and Design across the country. Anyone who is a student of Architecture, Planning and Design at the time of registration is eligible to participate.
Team Composition :
A Maximum of two members per team is permissible.
Facilitation by and Involvement of faculty members is desired. It would be extremely useful to the students if this could be incorporated into the curriculum of the students in the manner found suitable by the faculty.
Requirement for submission :
** A Background statement – defining the problem
** A maximum of 4 A3 sheets excluding the cover sheet shall be sent only as soft copy to ethosindia.helpdesk@gmail.com
** The soft copies should be sent as pdf presentations or power point presentations to be compatible with Microsoft office 2007.
** Do not write your names inside any of the sheets. Name your entry as your name/college name.
** While mailing, in the subject box please write: IGBC 2015 – your name/college name.
** Please restrict yourself to a maximum word limit of 300 words per sheet. More graphical presentations will be appreciated.
** Acknowledge references used for case studies and also any design ideas that have been adopted or adapted. All designs will be put through a scrutiny via different search engines.
** We would also require you to furnish a letter stating that the design is your property.
Awards :
An eminent jury will assess the entries and arrive at the top three winning entries and the awards will be presented during the IGBC’s Flagship event on Green Buildings – Green Building Congress 2015 held during 19 – 21 November at Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The top three winning teams get an opportunity to participate in the Congress.
Undergraduate Category I prize: Rs.50,000
II prize: Rs.30,000
III prize: Rs.20,000
