Great Vegan Dessert Challenge 2015:
Do your friends rave about your decadent, extra-chocolaty, melt-in-your-mouth-good vegan brownies? Have you “veganised” your auntie’s recipe for gulab jamun – and everyone agrees that it is even better than the original? Here’s your chance to show off your mad culinary skills by entering PETA India’s Great Vegan Dessert Challenge.
We’re launching a search for the most out-of-this-world vegan desserts in India. Preheat your oven, brush off your apron and start planning your cakes, cookies, brownies, pies, ladoos or whatever other sweet stuff you make best. If you’re new to vegan cooking, don’t worry: PETA US’ database of vegan recipes will provide plenty of inspiration. And for tips on how common kitchen staples – including cornstarch, baking powder and even diet soda – can be used to replace eggs in recipes, check out PETA’s Ultimate Vegan Baking Cheat Sheet.
Entering is as easy as (vegan) pie:
Just whip up your most sinfully delicious dessert that is free of milk, butter, eggs and other animal-based ingredients and then fill out the form below to send us a photo of your finished treat and the recipe that you used or were inspired by (as well as information on where the recipe is from if it’s not your own original creation).
Contest Guidelines:
** Only residents of India are eligible to enter.
** High-resolution photos are required. The image must be sharp (not blurry or fuzzy) and well lit, and only the dessert should appear in the photograph.
** The Last Date to submit entries is 27 November 2015.
** Check back on 30 November to see the top 10 desserts. At that time, voting to help PETA decide who it should choose as the winners will open. If your recipe has been selected, be sure to tell your friends and family to vote for you.
** The 10 finalists will be chosen based on equal consideration of three factors: PETA’s assessment of how delicious the dessert appears from the submitted photo and recipe, how readily available the ingredients used are in India and PETA’s assessment of the skill likely required to create the dessert.
** Visitors to the site will then be asked to vote for their favourites until 14 December 2015.
** The three winners will be chosen based on the equal consideration of two factors: the total number of votes each recipe receives and PETA’s assessment of how delicious the desserts appear from the submitted photos and recipes.
** The winners will be crowned the most fabulous vegan dessert cooks in all of India on 16 December 2015, and they will also receive fabulous prizes. The grand-prize winner will receive a certificate, the book Chloe’s Vegan Desserts by chef Chloe Coscarelli and a vegan-themed T-shirt. The first runner-up will receive a certificate and Coscarelli’s book, and the second runner-up will receive a certificate and a vegan-themed T-shirt.
Good luck and happy baking!
