Aim :

** The aim of the International Competition (First Feature Films of Directors) is to present innovative works of merit by first time fiction feature film makers, discover new talents, promote them and offer networking possibilities within the entertainment industry.

Application Last Date : August 10, 2015

Selection :

** Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI) chaired by the Indian Filmmaker Kiran Rao is responsible for inviting films to take part in the International Competition (First Feature Films of Directors).
** Unless specifically instructed otherwise, all films offered for consideration for this Competition may be considered for participation in other suitable sections of the Festival.

Eligible :

Films eligible to participate in the International Competition
a) The film must be the first fiction feature film of the director.
b) Films meant for theatrical release in 35mm or DCP projection formats may only participate. (The Competition does not accept video formats for screening).
c) Only feature length fiction films are considered for this competition section. The minimum length of the film should be 70 minutes.
d) The films must have been produced after September 01, 2014.
e) Participation at another international film festival outside India does not preclude entry into this Competition. However, preference would be given to World Premieres, International Premiers, Asian Premiers and Indian premiers in that order.
f) The films should not have been presented in India either theatrically (commercially or in Festivals) or in video / telecast / internet.
g) Films submitted for the previous edition will not be eligible.
h) In the case of Indian films, preference will be given to world premieres and / or international premieres and those films not commercially released in India.
i) Applying in 62st National Film Awards, 2014 does not preclude Indian film from applying in 17th Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival.
j) The festival director reserves the right to settle all cases not covered by the guidelines and to grant exceptions in special cases.

Version and Subtitles :

** All films must be screened in their original version, with English subtitles.
** The costs of subtitling are the responsibility of the producer.
** The version released in the country of origin is regarded as the original version of the film.

Media accepted for selection :

** The Last Date for entries as well as sending the films must be strictly observed.
** Written entry form as well as a copy of the submitted film in all-region DVD PAL format must reach the 17th Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival by the submission Last Date i.e. August 10, 2015.
** Working copies can be considered, if the producer / sales agent agree to provide 35mm print / DCP for festival screenings, if the film is selected.

Documentation :

** For each film selected, the Festival must receive detailed documentation immediately, including synopsis of the film, biography and complete filmography of the director and of the leading actors,
** a selection of high resolution stills from the film, the poster design in a high resolution format, a recent photograph of the director, and a full list of artistic and technical credits.

Awards :

** Awards for films in the International Competition
** The Jury is obliged to award the following prizes to films participating in the International Competition –
** Best Film – Golden Gateway trophy plus cash prize of Rs. 12,50,000 to the Director(s) of the film Rs. 12,50,000 to the Producer(s) of the film (The cash prize of Rs. 25,00,000 for this award is equally shared : 50% to the director(s) & 50% to producer(s))
** Jury Grand Prize for the Second Best Film – Silver Gateway trophy plus cash prize of Rs. 7,50,000 to the Director(s) of the film Rs. 7,50,000 to the Producer(s) of the film
** The cash prize of Rs. 15,00,000 for this award is equally shared : 50% to the director(s) & 50% to producer(s))
** Jury Special Mention – Silver Gateway trophy plus cash prize of Rs. 5,00,000 to the Director(s) of the film All the cash prizes are subject to Indian Tax laws
** Best Director receives Silver Gateway trophy
** Best Actress receives Silver Gateway trophy
** Best Actor receives Silver Gateway trophy
**Jury Award for the best work in any one of the following categories – Script / editing / Camera / Sound receives Silver Gateway trophy
