What is Youth Ideathon?

YOUTH IDEATHON is India’s Largest Festival of IDEAS for School Students of Class 4 to Class 12. It is an annual event brought about by collaboration between key partners from government and industry. Main organizing partners for Youth Ideathon 2023 are MEPSC and ThinkStartup. ThinkStartup is India’s largest entrepreneurship education provider for teenagers. ThinkStartup offers structured entrepreneurship and leadership programs for school students from Class 4 to Class 12.

Rules for participation of Youth Ideathon

1. Youth Ideathon 2023 is a team based 5-stage competition open to school students.
2. Bona-fide students studying in Class 4 to 12 accredited to any School Board in India are eligible to participate in Youth Ideathon 2023, India or International.
3. Eligible students can participate only in teams of 3 to 5 members. The minimum size of each participating team shall be 3 & maximum size of each participating team shall be 5.
4. The only way to participate in Youth Ideathon 2023 is by submitting an idea at the online link: https://youthideathon.in/submit-your-idea
5. The idea submission form will close at the Noon of 27th October 2023. This is the end of 1st stage of the competition. Upon closure, no entry for Youth Ideathon 2023 shall be considered for evaluation.
6. Any ideas you pitch or share at the Youth Ideathon (and its social media handles) which is released into the ‘public domain’ will not be bounded by any non-disclosure agreements from the organisers.
7. Participation in Youth Ideathon is FREE. However, for the final round, teams / schools will have to make their own arrangements for travel and stay.
8. All submitted ideas shall be evaluated by our expert panel.
9. On 29th October 2023, the list of Top 1000 teams shall be published on Youth Ideathon website (www.YouthIdeathon.in)
10. If two teams submit nearly the same idea and have got the same rating, the idea submitted first based on date and time stamp shall be given priority.
11. In the Stage 2 of the competition, teams shortlisted in Top 1000 shall have to submit a 2-minute recorded video pitch on any date between 29th October and 30th October 2023..

12. Please note, for consideration of team’s candidature in Youth Ideathon, all videos shall be published on YouTube channel of Think Startup Youth Ideathon 2023 for public voting. Videos uploaded at this stage shall not be removed under any circumstances. If any team is concerned about confidentiality of their idea, they may choose to drop out and their idea shall not be considered.

13. The selection for Stage 3 i.e., Top 100 teams shall be based on two factors – expert rating of video pitch and public voting score. Public Voting Score shall be calculated by ThinkStartup’s proprietary algorithm based on likes, comments and shares on uploaded YouTube video of each team. The Top 100 result shall be published by 6pm on 9th November 2023.

14. The Top 100 Teams shall be required to attend an online interview with our expert panel between 10th and 11th November 2023. The time slot provided for interview must be strictly adhered. In the event, a team does not report for the interview at the allotted time, their candidature shall be forfeited.

15. Stage 4 starts with publication of Top 25 Team on 11th November 2023. All Top 25 Teams win a concept prototyping award of Rs. 10,000. Mentors of Top 25 Teams shall win Rs. 5000 cash awards. The sole purpose of this award is to help the teams develop a quick prototype of their idea in 1-week time. These awards shall be disbursed through the school.t will judge the ideas on their respective theme and determine a winner.

16. Stage 5 of the competition is Final Pitch and Showcase of the prototype by Top 25 Teams on 19th November 2023 to the grand jury at New Delhi.
17. The Grand Jury will review all presentations and prototypes and fill out a scoring sheet on each to determine the Top 10 Teams.

How to Participate in the Youth Ideathon?

YI23 is a 5-tiered innovation competition with a unique 5th tier that focusses on incubating high-potential student ideas into ventures.

Stage 2 is also crowd engagement where teams upload their pitch on YouTube to get recommendations. Our algorithm gives a “Crowd Score” based on recommendations, comments, likes and views. In parallel, our Expert Panel then screens each idea and give an ‘Expert Score” based on “Idea Impact” and “Implementation Potential”.

Stage 3 is Top 100 Teams based on TOTAL SCORE of Stage 2. To create the Top 100 List with shall be Top 10 Teams from (9+1) regions namely Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Delhi, Lucknow, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Mumbai. These are mapped to following States and UTs.

In addition, Organizing Team shall have the liberty to select 10 more meritorious teams left out from any region due to competition. Thus, Stage 3 shall have a total of 100 teams.

This YOUTH IDEATHON has substantially higher number of awards and prizes. These are designed to incentivize students as they achieve higher level of complexity. Further, there are awards for Teachers, Mentors and Schools who are engaged in the furtherance of cause of innovation and entrepreneurship.

FAQ on Youth Ideathon

1. Who can participate?
Any school student from any board from Class 4 to Class 12.

2. Is it team or individual event?
Youth Ideathon sees innovation and entrepreneurship as a team sport. Therefore for YI23, students have to submit ideas in a team size of 3 to 5 members. Please note, minimum 3 members are must.

3. Should school short-list teams and then submit idea
** No.
** We strongly discourage schools to short-list ideas.
** Innovation selection is a complex topic, where most untrained minds of us go wrong. YI Evaluators are innovation experts with more than 5000 hours of deep innovation / entrepreneurship experience.
** Therefore, schools are advised NOT TO short-list any idea on their own. Schools must communicate all student teams to DIRECTLY submit their ideas on Youth Ideathon website.

4. How many teams can participate from my school?
As many as you want. You can have thousand+ teams literally. There is no restriction.
In fact, there are special awards for schools with more than 500 / 1000 unique students participating.
There are also special awards for Teacher Mentors who encourage more than 150 / 300 unique students to participate.

5. Can a student or team submit more than 1 idea?
Of course. There is no limit.

6. Can a team be of students from different schools?
In the past, we have seen very small number of entries with students from different schools. This is perfectly fine with us. We have no restriction on the composition of team, expect that these should be school students of Class 4 to 12.

7. Is there any specific subject on which students should submit ideas?
Innovation and entrepreneurship is a world of new discovery and opportunity. Youth Ideathon encourages students to explore opportunities in any walk of life. Therefore there is no subject restriction. Our theme is iStartup a Good Thing for India. Encourage your students to think of what can be a good thing for the society.
