Vidyasagar Science Olympiad – 2024 For identifying talented students of class IX of West Bengal is Organised by Jagadis Bose National Science Talent Search (JBNSTS). Top 5 students of class IX of a school (nominated by H.M/A.H.M/T.I.C of a school based on the performance in the Annual Examination of class VIII. 1st layer examination of Vidyasagar Science Olympiad 2024 will be held on 23rd June, 2024. Last date of VSO 2024 application is 5th May 2024.

Eligibility Criteria of Vidyasagar Science Olympiad
School Category:
Students of the following categories of the school may participate :
** All government schools under West Bengal Board of Secondary Education.
** All Non – Government recognised Aided and Sponsored Schools
** All D. A. getting schools under West Bengal Board of Secondary Education.
Eligibility criteria for students :
Top 5 students of class IX based on the performance in the Annual Examination of Class VIII [nominated by H.M. / A.H.M. / T.I.C. of a school] from all the Govt. and D.A. getting schools under WBBSE & all Non-Govt. recognized Aided and Sponsored schools are eligible to apply for the examination. H.M. / A.H.M. / T.I.C. of the school has to apply on behalf of the students from the school.
How to Apply for Vidyasagar Science Olympiad?
Only H.M. / A.H.M. /T.I.C. of a school can apply for their students
Please read all the instructions below, before starting the application process :
PART – I : School’s Registration (By H.M./ A.H.M. / T.I.C. of the school)
** Fill up the School UDISE Code as per Banglar Shiksha Portal in the specified box and click on Submit button.
** School’s name, Block /Municipality / Borough of a Municipal Corporation and District will automatically appeared in respective places (if UDISE code is correctly provided).
** Fill up the boxes of School’s Address, Pin code, Name, Mobile no. & Email id of H.M. / A.H.M. / T.I.C. of the school.
** Upload the scanned copy (in a PDF file) of the Recommendation letter (format given) of H.M. / A.H.M. / T.I.C. of the school in School’s Letter Head containing top 5 (maximum) students’ name, guardians’ name, & their percentage (%) of Marks in Final Examination of Class VIII and the Signature of the individual student.
** Please check once again to verify that all the boxes are filled properly before uploading the scan copy. You cannot edit any information after submission.
** Click on the “Please Proceed for Students’ Registration” button.
** A new page will appear which shows the message – “Your School Record is successfully uploaded”. Then you have to click on the “Please click here to proceed for registration of students”.
** Student registration page will be opened.
PART – II : Students’ Registration (responsibility has to be taken by H.M. / A.H.M. / T.I.C. of the school)
** School Code, School’s name, Block/ Municipal Corporation and District will automatically appeared in respective places.
** Fill up the 1st Student’s Name, Guardian’s Name, Gender, Student code / ID number as per Banglar Siksha Portal.
** Fill up the contact number and Email id of the student (if any).
** Fill up the percentage (%) of Marks (in aggregate) of the student obtained in the Final Examination of Class VIII.
** Upload the scanned copy of recent Passport size photograph of the student in JPG format in the specified place for that particular student.
** Upload the scanned copy of full signature of the student in JPG format in the specified place for that particular student.
** Fill up the CAPCHA CODE properly, appeared in the adjacent box.
** Click on the REGISTER Button.
** A message “STUDENT RECORD SUCCESSFULLY UPDATED” will be shown and then it will automatically back to the page for registration of the next student. At the bottom of the page the list of the already registered students for the same school will be displayed in a table.
PART – III :
** Please repeat the same (Sl. 2 – 9 of PART – II) procedure for 2nd, 3rd, 4th, & 5th Students one after another.
** After submission of the information of the 5th candidate, “Already 5 (five) students (maximum number) have registered their name from (respective school’s name)” – message will be displayed and registration of further students cannot be made.
** Please take a print out the list of all recommended candidates and please note their respective registration numbers for your future reference.
Examination Pattern of VSO
Subjects: Physical Science, Life Science and Mathematical science.
Question type: MCQ (There will be negative marking of ½ marks for each wrong answer).
Syllabus: Syllabus of examination will be up to class VIII science and mathematics syllabus of West Bengal Board.
Full Marks: 100 (Physical Science 40, Life Science 30 and Mathematical Science 30) for 50 MCQs. Each question carries 2 marks.
Language of question: Bengali and English..
Tentative date and time: First layer of Vidyasagar Science Olympiad, to be held on June 23, 2024 during 12:00 Noon to 03:00 P.M.
Examination Centers: There may be one examination centre in each of the Units which may change depending on the number of students from each unit.
First layer examination: Intra Unit competition
** An examination will be conducted among the schools under a unit (Block/Municipality/Borough of a Municipal Corporation).
** Each unit of all individual district will be covered and finally top 10% students of the appeared candidates of each unit will qualify for second layer of examination provided they have to score at least 30% of the the total marks in Layer 1.
** Apart from that, students who will score 50% of the total marks will qualify for the Layer 2 examination.
Outcome:
** Top 3 candidates (provided they have scored at least 40% of the total marks in Layer 1 examination) of each Unit will be awarded a book grant of Rs. 1000/- .
** Top 10% students (provided they have scored at least 30% of the total marks in Layer 1 examination) of each Unit will qualify for second level and these students will be acknowledged by participation certificate .
** Apart from that, students who will score 50% of the total marks will qualify for the Layer 2 examination.
