What is Nagrika Youth Writing Contest?
Nagrika Youth Writing Contest 2024 is organized by Nagrika. The Contest is open only to Indian residents and the age Between 18 to 30 years. The entries could be written out of nostalgia, hope, or an attempt to preserve the existing elements of play, fun and leisure. Entries will be accepted both in English and Hindi. Last Date of Contest is 15th June 2024.

Eligibility of Nagrika Youth Writing Contest
Participant Eligibility:
Between 18 – 30 years old
Resident of India
Last date for submission: Entries will be accepted until 15th June 2024 at 11:59 pm IST.
Language: Entries will be accepted both in English and Hindi.
Word count:
Prose: At least 1000 words, maximum of 3000 words.
Poems: Must be at least 20 lines or 200 words.
Judging Criteria of Nagrika Youth Writing Contest
Entries will be judged on the following criteria:
Originality & Insight: Whether the submission is unique and presents original ideas about your city. If the writing provides any interesting insights, analysis or perspectives about their cities.
Writing Skill: We are referring to the skills of crafting a well-told story, narrative, essay, poem or any other such written format. Skills can be in the form of writing techniques such as clarity and conciseness in writing, clarity of thought and organization of ideas.
Overall Emotional Impact: This would mean the overall emotional response that the entry is able to evoke in readers/judges. A good entry typically evokes some emotion such as nostalgia, joy, sadness among others.
Parameters of judging:
This year, we are looking for creative entries which tell the story of your city through fairs. Through the write-up, share your ideas about all the unique ways in which people of your city have fun! The entries could be written out of nostalgia, hope, or an attempt to preserve the existing elements of play, fun and leisure. Your entries must:
** Situate the fair within your city
** Highlight unique aspects of your city (could be through games, music, festivals, traditions, local delicacies, etc.)
** Delve into the reasons why your city’s fair could become a legacy
** Try to incorporate the principles of sustainability and environmental conservation
Guidelines for the Entries of Nagrika Youth Writing Contest
Some questions you can explore with your entries. These questions are just indicative:
** How do people in your city indulge in fun?
** What were the fairs like in the city you grew up in?
** What were/are some of the best things about your city?
** How would the fair you design instill fun among the city folks and draw people from other places
** How do you think you could make it accessible, inclusive, and safe for all?
** What do you hope the future of fun in your city looks like?
** How can the fair you design become fun for your future generations?
** How can the fair you design be environmentally sensitive?
** The Nagrika Jury maintains the right to select the winner. The entries shared with the jury will be anonymized.
** Nagrika team and their family are not eligible to win a prize in the contest.

Q. Can I submit in any language other than English and Hindi?
A. Presently, we are only accepting entries in English and Hindi.
Q. What is the final date of submission?
A. We will be accepting entries until 15th June, 2024 at 11.59 PM IST.
Q. Can I add sketches or photographs with my written entry?
A. We encourage creative and artistic thinking. The more creatively you illustrate your narratives, the more enriched your perspective will be.
Q. If I applied last year, can I submit my entry this year as well?
A. Nagrika welcomes applicants to re-apply and submit their entries for this year’s competition, provided they did not win previously. In the spirit of competition, we want to encourage new talents to participate and compete in our annual writing contest.
Q. Is there a country restriction for participation in the competition?
A. The competition is open only to Indian residents who have a valid and functional Indian bank account and a PAN card.
Q. Can I send in handwritten entries?
A. No, we do not accept handwritten entries. If you are facing trouble typing in Hindi, consider using Google Toolkit’s Hindi option. It is a free to use application.
Q. Which city do I write about?
A. It can be your hometown, or any city in India that you are currently living in.
