We waited for you to gather new experiences, put together new tales, think through events, dream wide and big, put ears to the grape wine…..all that which may help turn it into a good short story that you would like to pen down and share.

The Tollygunge Club, Annual Short Story Competition 2015:
‘The Joy of Writing & Sharing’:
The Tollygunge Club Annual Short Story Competition for members is back ! With the overwhelming success of the 2013 edition, we are now opening entries for the 2015 chapter. As you would know that we have decided to hold this competition once every two years. This has been done deliberately. To help you gather new experiences, put to-gether new tales, think through events, dream wide and big, put ears to the grape wine…..all that which may help turn it into a good short story that you would like to pen down and share.
So why wait? Take a sheaf of paper or better still your tablet or laptop. Curl into a comfortable position on your fa-vourite chair by the window or at your workstation. Thread an original short story that can help discover the joy of writing and sharing it with others.
The Event:
The Library Sub Committee presents the second Annual Short Story Competition for all Tollygunge Club Members. To make it easy here are the following guidelines:
Theme : Open ( it could vary from personal incidents, romance, murder, supernatural etc.,)
Open to : Members of Tollygunge Club above the age of 18 years (Gymkhana and Dependent included)
Max Words : 2000
Language : English only
Last Date of Entry : 31st July 2015
Caveat : Should be an original piece of work and not published elsewhere prior to and after this event without permission
Acceptance: Printed copies in double space, Font – Times Roman point 12. Four (4) copies to be handed over to the Library in a sealed cover by 31st July 2015 with Name and Membership number, Mobile number and email address on the envelope AND NOT ON THE MANUSCRIPT
Our Judges:
1. Ms. Champak Basu continued her interest in writing even after her marriage. She has written a number of Com-pany histories, including that of the ITC Limited and the Indo Burma Petroleum Company. She has also penned books for children, and wrote articles in popular journals and newspapers one of the most famous of them being Cof-fee Break in The Telegraph Kolkata under her pen name of Pakshi Vasudeva
2. Ms. Anjum Katyal has been involved in theatre publishing for decades as an editor, writer, translator and critic. She was Chief Editor of Seagull Books and is presently Consultant (Publications) with Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies (MAKAIAS), a research institute based in Kolkata. She is also a Consultant with Oxford Bookstore. She has a background in education and teacher training. A published poet, she also sings the blues and reviews and writes on theatre and the visual arts.
3. Mr. Amar Agarwala is a practicing Chartered Accountant and a Company Secretary. A motivational speaker, Amar spends his time between Ceuta in Spain and Kolkata. His works include Missing Varrun, Horizonte Azul (Blue Horizon) a book of poems, and Un Despertar (An Awakening) a play – both done in collaboration with the Govt of Spain, Astral Runner (fantasy fiction). He has just finished Calcutta Kaleidoscope – a collection of short stories. He also possesses a degree in Law and is also an MBA.
The Reward:
The event will conclude with a grand Awards Evening where the winners will meet the Judges and have excerpts read from the works.
