Event History :
For the first two years of the Mussoorie Half Marathon, it traced its course along the crest of a ridge, where the town was first established in the 1820s.
A number of important landmarks are situated on this route, including the Mussoorie Library, founded in 1843, and the Municipal Gardens, also known as Company Bagh.
But the most important historical site is Everest House, which marks the turnaround point of the Mussoorie Half Marathon.
These ruins, overlooking the Dehradun valley, were once part of Park Estate, owned by the Surveyor General of India, Sir George Everest, after whom the highest mountain in the world is named.
In the mid-1800s, Everest House served as a benchmark for the earliest cartographic surveys of the Himalayas, the point from which most altitudes and distances were calculated.
