Celebration of Sanskrit Week 2015:

Sanskrit is one of the ancient languages of India and it is important to familiarise oneself with Sanskrit if one has to understand the growth of Indian civilization and culture. As an endeavour to promote Sanskrit, the schools affiliated to CBSE may celebrate Sanskrit Week by conducting various child-centric activities.

The objective of celebrating Sanskrit Week may be to provide voluntary opportunity to students to share their knowledge of Sanskrit and learn it from each other. The celebration of this week would increase awareness about the close relationship among Sanskrit and various other languages and cultural heritage of India. It may also stimulate linguistic creativity among students. The schools may organize many activities during the Sanskrit Week which may be celebrated from August 26, 2015 to September 1, 2015.

Some of the suggested activities :

i. Kavita Rachana :
Schools may encourage students to compose short Sanskrit poems on different themes.

ii. Essay Competition on themes related to Sanskrit :
The Schools may conduct the Essay Competition on themes related to Sanskrit. The essay must be original and should relate to a topic important for promotion of Languages, Indian Art and Culture, Interlinking of Sanskrit with other Modern Indian Languages or other allied topics.

iii. Sanskrit Shloka Antyakshari :
Schools may organize recitation competition for these classes by employing various interesting methods such as Shloka Antyakshari. School may decide to organize this competition in an age appropriate manner for various classes and may invite eminent Sanskrit scholars as jury for the final level function to be held in the school.

iv. Organization of Yuva Sansad on Indian languages:
This activity aims to strengthen the oratory acumen of students and they would learn to seek clarifications to various questions related to learning of Indian languages and suggest possible solutions. Age appropriate competition may be organized in this event.

v. Linking of Sanskrit with Modern Indian Languages (including languages in the 8th schedule of the Constitution of India) and International languages:
Students from Senior Secondary classes may be motivated to carry out action research on establishing links/genesis of any of the above mentioned languages with the Sanskrit.

vi. Screening of a Sanskrit film :
Schools may screen a Sanskrit film e.g. Punyakoti, Gundaa, Mudrarakshasa etc. with subtitles in Hindi/English in the school auditorium.

vii. Interaction of children with eminent personalities/scholars Sanskrit literature-Schools may invite eminent Sanskrit scholars and children may interact with these scholars:
The discussion may focus on how to increase interest in the promotion of daily use of Sanskrit.

In addition to above Central Board of Secondary Education is organizing a National Level Essay Competition for the schools affiliated to it. Following are the details for this competition:
Category A (for classes VI-VIII):
Topics:
1. Role of Sanskrit in the development of cultural heritage of India.
2. Five values to live by.
3. Education for the National Integration in India.

Word limit: 500 words

Category B (for classes IX-XII):
Topics:
1. Influence of Sanskrit on the folk literature and languages of India.
2. Role of Education in disseminating values among students.
3. Importance of Inter-religious dialogue for peace.

Word limit: 750 words

Instructions :

1. All the schools affiliated to CBSE are eligible for this competition
2. Candidates should write their essays in Sanskrit
3. Only one entry per student is allowed
4. Essays must be original, have not been published earlier, and authored by one student.
5. Each school may not submit more than three (3) essays in each category.
6. Each essay should be preferably typed or neatly written at A-4 size paper
7. Essays may be not exceed the prescribed word limit of the respective category
8. Each essay will be assessed on the basis of following criteria: Grammar, uniqueness, understanding of the topic and its implementation in the essay, the style of writing and the flow, and how the essay addresses the theme and approaches to solving the problems related to theme.
9. By submitting their essays, it is understood that participants consent to their work being used and copied by Central Board of Secondary Education for promotional and/or informational purposes

10. Each submission must include:
i. Name of the student ii. Class iii. Name of the school
iv. Complete Address v. Contact details- vi. Mobile
vii. E mail Id

11. School affiliated to CBSE may send their best three entries in each category to its respective Regional Office latest by September 10, 2015.

Regional Offices after scrutinizing and assessing all the entries received with the help of Sanskrit experts at the regional level would send regional level five best entries in each category to the Academic Unit at New Delhi. The experts at the Academic Unit will finally select the top three best entries in each category from each region for the national level. The selected best three entries will respectively be awarded a cash prize of Rs. 2,500, Rs. 2000 and Rs. 1500 each with a certificate of commendation.

Schools may also prepare a detailed report regarding school level activities and send it to their respective regional office latest by 30.09.2015.
