To encourage the young to appreciate and perfect themselves in the field of Hindustani Classical Music, and to bring out the best amongst the competitors, an open competition in Hindustani Classical Music was started by Shree Baba Harivallabh Sangeet Mahasabha (Regd.) in the year 1979. Since then it is organized every year.

General Rules for the Music Competition:
There are Four Categories for the competition namely:
** Vocal – Khayal Gayan Or Dhrupad Gayan
** Vocal – Thumri, Dadra, Tappa Gayan – For Senior Age Group Only
** Instrumental (Non-Percussion – Swar Vadya)
** Instrumental (Percussion – Taal Vadya) – Tabla Vadan Or Pakhawaj Vadan

There are Two Age Groups namely:
** Juniors (Yuva Varg) (From 10+ to 16 years)
** Seniors (VarishthYuva Varg (From 16+ to 25 years)

There are Three Prizes in each category namely:
** First
** Second
** Third

In addition, the winners from the Senior Age Group (Varishth Yuva Varg) will be initiated as ‘Performing Artists’ during the Shree Baba Harivallabh Sangeet Sammelan next year.

Annual Music Competition 2016 – A Note for the Participants
The Music Competition 2016 will be held on December 19, 20, 21 and 22, 2016. The Competition will start at 10.00 A.M. on all the days and will continue till late in the evening.

The Schedule of Music Competitions 2016 is as follows:
** December 19, 2016 – Junior Age Group – Categories – Vocal, Percussion.
** December 20, 2016 – Junior Age Group – Category Non – Percussion.
** December 20, 2016 – Senior Age Group – Vocal – Khayal & Dhrupad Categories.
** December 21, 2016 – Senior Age Group – Thumri/Dadra/Tappa & Percussion Category (Tabla & Pakhawaj).
** December 22, 2016 – Senior Age Group – Percussion Category (Tabla & Pakhawaj) (remaining participants) & Non-Percussion Category.

Accommodation :
Accommodation in Rooms, Halls & Dormitories is available for the competitors at Shri Devi Talab Mandir and Shri Kali Mata Mandir in Devi Talab Complex. on request (on first come first served basis). Nominal Room rent is charged by these institutions. (payable in advance).

Prizes, Awards & Recognitions:
** All the contestants shall receive “Certificate of Participation” from Shree Baba Harivallabh Sangeet Mahasabha.
** The winners securing First, Second and Third position shall be awarded Cash prize, Medal / Memento and Merit Certificate.
** The winners from the Senior age group (Varishth Yuva Varg) shall be initiated as ‘Performing Artists’ during the next year’s ‘Shree Baba Harivallabh Sangeet Sammelan’ and shall be given an opportunity to perform during at the ‘Sangeet Sammelan’.
** The committee may reduce the number of prizes in a particular category/age group if the number of contestants falls short of Six ( 6 ) in that particular category/age group.
** The judges may, in exceptional cases, in consultation with the Music Competition Committee, award Special prize to a competitor whose performance merits special consideration.
