Horlicks Hack 4 Fun :
Horlicks, a GlaxoSmithKline product, is conducting a game development contest. Participants should build a game for children of the age of 7-14 years.
Milk should be the central theme of the game and should have the Horlicks brand integrated in the game.
The game should be built for the web and/or mobile/tablet platforms. Desktop entries will not be considered for the prizes.
The contest is open to accepting pre-built games, as long as it is themed around milk and can be modified to contain Horlicks branding.
The hackathon teams can be between 1 to 3 people. The contest will be conducted in 2 phases. The first phase of the Hackathon is an online contest, where contestants can submit their entries. Games will be shortlisted through the duration of the contest and the GlaxoSmithKline team will share feedback with the shortlisted candidates.
In the second phase, the shortlisted candidates will present to a panel of judges, in an offline event in Bangalore, and the winners will be adjudged there.
Prizes :
** 1st Prize – 8 Lakhs
** 2nd Prize – 6 Lakhs
** 3rd Prize – 4 Lakhs
** First 50 winners will win HackerEarth swags (T-shirts, Pen Drives and Stickers)
Rules :
** This is a team participation hackathon. You can have at most 3 members in your team.
** You can either invite your friends to form a team or you can request other teams to add you as a member.
** The hackathon will start at 03-09-2015 09:00 PM and end at 20-10-2015 09:00 PM, you work on your hack during the allotted time only.
** It’s an online hackathon, you can participate from anywhere.
** There are 1 themes of the hackathon, you must submit a hack that is in one of these themes.
** Once the hackathon starts, you will get an option to submit your hack, you can submit as many times as you want, the last hack will be considered as the final submission.
** You are expected to come up with new and innovative ideas, any idea that has been copied from somewhere will be disqualified.
** Your hack must be developed entirely during the Hackathon duration. You may use open source libraries and other freely available systems / services such as Google Maps, Facebook Connect, Twitter feeds etc.
** The intellectual property of your code belongs only to your team.
** By participating in the hackathon, you agree to the terms and conditions of HackerEarth.

Do I need to pay any money to register for the Hackathon?
No. You do not have to pay anything to anyone to register yourself for any Hackathon on HackerEarth.
Do I need to have any specific qualifications to be a participant for the Hackathon?
If you love to code, you are more than welcome to participate in the Hackathon.
How do I submit what I have made for the Hackathon?
You have to develop the application on your local system and submit it on HackerEarth in tar/zip file format along with instructions to run the application and source code.
Do we need to have the entire idea fully working?
The entire idea need not be fully implemented however, the submission should be functional so that it can be reviewed by the judges.
How is the environment? Will your environment support any language? Will you provide any IDE and DB for us to work on ideas?
You have to develop the entire software application on your local system and submit it on HackerEarth in tar/zip file format along with instructions to run the application and source code.
Does one have to be online and available for the entire duration of the Hackathon?
No, one does not need to be logged in on HackerEarth or be online for the entire duration.You can develop the application on your local system based on the four given themes and then submit it on HackerEarth, on the specific challenge page.
Since there is no specific technology mentioned, are there any restrictions on using number of pre-built libraries?
There is no restriction to use any language, technology stack, or libraries. You can use any of them to create the web/mobile application. However you have to ensure that IPR of a third party are not breached and you have obtained all necessary permissions, clearances wherever required.
Do I need to give a demo for the product that I have built?
If you want you can submit a small presentation or video that demos your submission,however it’s not mandatory, and only good to have. In case you are one of the winners, you might be invited to demo your application at an offline event, details of which will be shared with sufficient advance notice.
A fully developed application need to have a solid backend for data storage like SQL, SharePoint etc. since its online, is it accepted to show only the proto type of it?
Yes it’s absolutely fine to submit just the prototype. If you use any database like MySQL or PostgresSQL you can also submit a database dump along with your submission. However you are allowed to submit just the prototype.
If it is a team submission, does that mean all team members will have access to work at the same time?
Yes, all team members can login from their account and do application submission on HackerEarth.
Who will own the IP(Intellectual Property) Rights to the product that I have built?
The IP of the game’s source code, concept and design assets will belong to GlaxoSmithKline, once the submission has been made. However, all code needs to be in public domain so that it can be evaluated by the judges.
