An Innovative venture by Government of West Bengal in the form of a Fabulous Food Festival.

Once again, it’s a noble albeit a novel venture by the Government of West Bengal to serve the people with age-old as well as modern delicacies of Bengal-food with an aim to create awareness about the irresistible taste and the convenient source of the food products along with the promotion of the food industry in the state.

This pro-people endeavor would also boost up the production and sale of the raw ingredients of the food products resulting in an enhanced remuneration to the farming community of Bengal.

Inauguration: 25th October, 2017 at 6pm.
Dinner: 6:00pm – 9:00pm

26th October – 29th October:
Lunch: 12:00pm – 3:00pm
Snacks: 3:00pm – 6:00pm
Dinner: 6:00pm – 9:00pm

Cookery Competition Instructions

** Participants have to register online in website www.wbfestivals.gov.in
** Intending participants can register their names from 25.09.2017 to 15.10.2017.
** There will be three different categories and competition will be conducted on a particular category on the fixed date. 26.10.2017 – Chhana, 27.10.2017 – fish, 28.10.2017 – Meat.
** Participant can participate in one category only.
** From the registered applicants, twenty participants will be selected in each category by the panel of judges.
** Regarding selection of Participants in each and every step, final decision will rest on the Festival Authority.
** The list of selected participants will be published in the website www.wbfestivals.gov.in on 20.10.2017.
** Selected twenty participants will have to bring one cooked dish for competition on the date fixed for each category (as mentioned in Point no. 3) he/she applied.
** Participants have to display/serve their garnished cooked dish in front of the panel of judges.
** Only Induction oven will be provided for heating of cooked recipes. All other utensils will have to carry by Participants for heating, display etc.
** Three participants will be selected from each category by the panel of Judges for the Grand Finale on 29.10.2017.
** During the Grand Finale on 29.10.2017, the qualified candidates will have to prepare one starter with Quail Egg and one main course with prawn (sufficient quantity for two persons) in front of the panel of Judges within a time period of an hour.
** On the day of the Grand Finale only major ingredients like Quail Egg & Prawn, induction oven and washing facilities (basin & running water) will be provided by the Festival authority.
** All other ingredients and utensils will have to be arranged by the participants for the preparation of recipes.
** The qualified candidates for the Grand Finale will have to submit requisition for required quantity, type & form of fish required for the Grand Finale on the date of their selection for final.
** All 20 selected participants will get a certificate from Festival Authority. Three Winners of the Grand Finale will get attractive prizes

Backdrop & Objective :
** Buoyed by the success of the previous years, the ‘Ahare Bangla – A Unique Food Festival celebrating Bengal’ showcasing the popular and gourmet cuisine of the state shall be inaugurated on 25th October, 2017 at Science City Ground Kolkata.

** Going by the response of the last year’s festival, this year it shall be held in a larger area having a one time sitting capacity of about 3000 people.
** The entry of the festival is free and it will remain open from 12 Noon to 9 P.M. for further four days starting from 26th October, 2017 to 29th October, 2017.

** This five days long food carnival is going to be organized by the Animal Resources Development Department of Government of West Bengal in association with other concerned departments of the Government, namely, Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises & Textiles, Information and Cultural Affairs, Food Processing Industries & Horticulture, Fisheries and Agricultural Marketing.

** The principal objective of this unique Food Carnival is to promote the Food and Food Processing Industries in the State.
** This Fair shall provide a platform where the producers and the consumers can interact under one roof and which in turn shall directly benefit the larger farming community of the State.
** West Bengal has many unique varieties of rice namely, black aromatic rice popularly known as Kalabhat, short grained aromatic rice Kalonunia, Gobindabhog, Tulaipanji, Kataribhog etc. similarly, pulses such as Sonamug, Bhajakalai dal etc. and some exotic vegetables are found only in this part of the country which will be displayed in the fair.

** The Animal Recourses Development Department shall promote various non-conventional meat and meat products of Quail, Turkey, Rabbit, Emu, Pork (including special Ghunghroo variety), Black Bengal goat, Bonopala lamb, Garole lamb.

** The Fisheries Department will exhibit new varieties of fish with high productivity and taste such as Vennami, Pungus, Vietnam Koi etc.

** All the items mentioned here, be it a aromatic rice varieties or precious pulses or various conventional or non-conventional meat and meat products or the latest products or Mother Diary Calcutta or the delicacies of rare and exotic fish, shall be available for both exhibition and retail sale at the fair.

** Further, renowned restaurants and caterers of the city will partner with the Government to bring their diversified cuisine in a unique interactive setting where anyone can see, eat and buy.
