Empanelment of Designers through Design Contest :

Objective :
Many of the handloom weavers require the services of designers at Common Facility Centres (CFCs).

Since, the present guidelines provide for engagement of qualified designers only, it is difficult to arrange designers, particularly in remote areas.
There are many good designers who can make excellent designs but cannot be engaged due to lack of requisite degrees.
It has been, therefore, decided to hold a Design Contest open to all designers and empanel them for taking their services at the CFCs.

Eligibility :
** The competition is open to all persons engaged in designing for the handloom products.
** The participants must be above 21 years of age.

Modalities and requirements of Submission :
** The empanelment will be done WSC wise.
** The designs must carry the name of the applicant.

The following technical specification of the designs must be attached to each design :
1. Name of the product
2. Raw material for warp (cotton/silk/wool etc.)
3. Raw material for weft (cotton/silk/wool etc.)
4. Count of warp
5. Count of weft
6. Ends per inch
7. Picks per inch

The interested persons may send their bio-data in the prescribed format (Annexure- I) along with three designs (manual or computerized) each to the concerned Weavers Service Centre as given below:-

Selection criteria :
Selection will be done by a committee of the jury based on the assessment of designs submitted. If required, the applicants will be asked to demonstrate their designing skill before the jury.

The constitution of the committee of the jury will be as follows:-
(i) Zonal Director – Chairman
(ii) Faculty of NIFT – Member
(iii) Three reputed designers of the area/ cluster designers – Member
(iv) Sant Kabir Awardee/National Awardee – Member
