The Editing Startup Select 10 Contest

Following are the relevant details for the contest.

Registration & Submissions

1. Only registered participants will be eligible for prizes.
2. Registration and participation is free. Participants are not required to pay any registration fee. Participants will be provided a four digit “participant number”.
3. Articles should only be submitted at: Submit article for contest.

Content of Articles

1. “Article” refers to any content submitted for the contest. Both fiction and non-fiction articles will be eligible for the contest.
2. Only articles with a minimum length of 1,000 words will be eligible for the contest.
3. Poems, short stories, micro-fiction, etc. will not be eligible for the contest.

Prizes

There are 3 prize categories:
1. Monthly: Cash prize of ₹250 to one article.
2. Quarterly: Cash prize of ₹500 to one article.

3. Annual: This has two components:
a. A place in “The Editing Startup’s Select 10 2018” book for 10 articles which will be published after December.
b. A cash prize of ₹5,000 to one article.

4. Total cash prize amount = (₹250×12) + (₹500×4) + (₹5000×1) = ₹10,000.

Eligibility For Prizes :
Following are the eligibility criteria for different prizes:

1. Monthly: At least 2 articles in the month.
2. Quarterly: At least 4 articles in the quarter.

3. Annual:
a. A place in the book: At least one article in the year.
b. Cash prize of ₹5,000: At least 18 articles in the year.

Examples of eligible submissions:
A. 2 articles in January, 1 article in February and 1 article in March: Eligible for monthly prize in January only, and the quarterly prize.
B. 2 articles in January and 2 articles in March: Eligible for monthly prizes in January and March, and the quarterly prize.
C. 4 articles in February: Eligible for monthly prize in February only, and the quarterly prize.
D. 18 articles in November: Eligible for monthly prize in November only, the quarterly prize, and the annual cash prize.
E. 1 article in the year: Eligible for a place in the book.

Criteria for Selection of Winners

Primary:
1. Quality of content.
2. Originality of content.

Secondary:
1. Number of views on the article (not available publicly).
2. Number of shares on Facebook and Twitter (available publicly).

Explanations to criteria:
1. Quality of content will get preference over views. An article with ten views may be chosen over an article with a thousand views if content is superior.
2. Only original content will be eligible. Plagiarised or duplicate content (articles already published somewhere else, even on personal blogs) will not be eligible for the prizes.
3. Secondary criteria is the number of views on the article, and the number of shares (Facebook and Twitter only). Articles with more views and shares have more chances of winning.

Announcement of Winners

1. Names of winners will be announced on our Facebook page on the 5th of the next month. For example, the name of the winner of January will be announced on 5 February. The name of the winner of first quarter (January-March) will be announced on 5 April.
2. List of the Select 10 stories and name of the winner of annual cash prize will be announced on 15 January 2019.
3. Winners will also be notified on email and will be provided with the details regarding the prizes.
4. Date of availability of the book will be announced on 15 February 2019.
