Lex Infinitum VMSCL-WMO Dispute Resolution Competition
Lex Infinitum aims at promoting the use of ADR in India as well as abroad. The widespread use of ADR can only be accomplished by enhancing the popularity of ADR techniques among law students and young lawyers.
Rules
Participation And Eligibility
Eligibility Of Teams
** The Competition is open to all bonafide students of Law Schools, Law Colleges, or other Institutions/ and Universities (hereinafter “Institution”) where in the Participants are primarily engaged in the study of Law.
** Each Institution is permitted to enter only one “team” in the Competition
** All Participants must be registered in their respective institutions as full-time students or part-time students or exchange students for the academic year 2017-2018.
Team Formation
** Each team shall comprise of 3 students- 1 Mediator and 2 Negotiators (Negotiator Team).
** One Member of the Team will be designated as Mediator, and the role will remain unchanged throughout the Competition.
** The other two members of the team will be the designated Negotiators, representing a Client and his/her counsel, during the negotiation role play.
** The roles of Client and Counsel are interchangeable at different rounds during the competition, but not during the course of the role play in the same round.
Coach And Observers
** Each team may nominate a single Coach who maybe a Professor, Assistant or Adjunct Professor, Qualified Lawyer, Lecturer in ADR, Mediator, Mediation or Negotiation Trainer.
** Each team may nominate Observers who must be full time or part time students of the same institution.
** The registered Coach alone will be permitted to interact with the team during the preparation time, after the distribution of Confidential Information (hereinafter “CI”).
** The teams shall not communicate with anyone other than the registered Coach after CI is issued.
** During the sessions the Teams shall not communicate to anyone except the other negotiating team and the mediator.
** The Coach and Observers may attend and observe the Competition Sessions involving their team but will not be allowed to communicate with the Team while the round is in progress.
FAQ
Are we allowed to use electronic gadgets like phones/laptops etc during the mediation session (inclusive of preparation time before session, caucuses)?
No. Use of electronic gadgets like phones/laptops etc shall be prohibited during the mediation sessions.
Is transportation arranged by the host College from hotel rooms to the venues?
Yes. Transportation will be provided only in the beginning and the end of the day from the hotel to venue and back. No transportation provided during the mediation sessions of all teams. No transportation will be arranged to and from the airport/railway station.
Can the participants leave the venue during mediation sessions?
No. Participants will not be allowed to leave the competition venue during the mediation sessions.
Can the coaches/observers help the participants during the preparation time?
Only one coach/observer will be allowed to help the participating team.
Are the teams allowed to carry documents/papers and pass them to the opposite team?
Teams are allowed to carry documents printed in A4 size. Charts papers and other sizes are not allowed. Teams may exchange one sheet of A4 size paper. Kindly check competition rules for further details.
Can additional accommodation for persons other than the participants be provided by the host college?
No. Additional accommodation will not be made available to anyone other than the participants. Coaches/Observers will be provided accommodation on payment of the prescribed fees. Kindly check the registration page for further details.
Is Wi-Fi available during the competition days?
Wi-Fi will be made available to all the participants and coaches/observers during the competition days at the accommodation as well as the competition venue (V. M. Salgaocar College of Law)
What is the schedule of the event?
Tentative schedule of the competition is on the website. Detailed schedule to follow soon.
Will food be provided during the Competition days ?
Breakfast will be provided at the accommodation on all days ; lunch will be provided on competition days and Inaugural and Valeldictory dinners.
Is there a Dress Code for the events during the competition?
Yes. All events during the competition have a dress code which will be specified in the detailed schedule which will be uploaded soon.
When will the problems be uploaded ?
The problems for all the preliminary rounds will be released on 15th November 2017.
What is the criteria for selecting the teams ?
Kindly go through the Team Registration Form. Particulars in the form are relevant and are considered by the Advisory Committee while shortlisting teams.
