Intellectus 2016 :

HLIC is glad to announce INTELLECTUS 2016. Intellectus is the brainchild of the students of the HLIC. We conduct a two days National Level Competition for the undergraduate students to show their talents and inherent talents since 2010. In the year 2015, 48 colleges from 20 universities participated in the competition. In this contest, students get opportunities to exhibit their reading, writing, public speaking and presentation skills.

Registration Last Date : 18 December, 2015

Our aim is to provide a platform to such students and nurturing and recognizing their skills. This contest is a set of five diverse but inter-related competitions like Essay-writing, Personality Contest, Group Discussion, Extempore and Book Review, which offers, in total, 19 prizes including a rotating trophy to the winning college and various prizes in cash/kind.

Eligibility :

Undergraduate students of all colleges affiliated to all approved universities located across India are eligible to participate.

Participation:
Each college can send only one common entry for all the events of Intellectus 2016. Students of fourth and fifth year taking dual-degree (e.g. B.A.LL.B., integrated B.B.A., M.B.A., etc.) are not eligible. A student who has already acquired a bachelor’s degree and is pursuing another bachelorlevel degree is not eligible to participate. A student can extend his/her participation in more than one event. The last date for receiving the duly filled entry forms is Friday, December 18, 2015.

Prizes for individual events will be declared on the basis of the participation in that particular event only. However, only those students who participate in all five events will be eligible for the final prize.

Participation Form:
The essay, written as per the guidelines given below and the questionnaire for the personality contest must also be sent along with the entry form. In case of discrepancy the decision made by the Intellectus Organizing Committee will be final and binding

Prizes :

** In all, there are 19 prizes along with various prizes in cash/kind.
** There will be a Winner, First Runners-up and Second Runners-up in each of the five events, on the basis of top three scores obtained by all participants at each event.
** The points won by each participant in all the events in which he / she participates will be added to decide the Overall Winner, First Runners-up and Second Runners-up of the Intellectus.
** The ‘Intelllectus-2016 Rotating Trophy’ will be awarded to the college of the participant winning Overall First Prize.
** All prize winners will be given individual trophies and certificates of appreciation.
** All the participants will be given a certificate of participation.

Structure :
Intellectus 2016 will comprise five events.

Event 1: Essay Writing

Writing is the most effective tool to present our feelings in beautiful words. We can accelerate our
thought process and fly on the wings of our minds. A spoken word may vanish but a beautifully
presented thought has a lasting impact on our targeted group. We present here an opportunity for you
to express your views on a thought provoking subject troubling the minds of the intellectuals our nation.

The topic for the essay is :
‘The Great Divided Nation Called India’

Rules:
1. The essay can be written in Gujarati, English or Hindi language.
2. The essay should follow a minimum 2000 and maximum 2500 word limit.
3. The essay must be mailed as an attachment to intellectus@hlic.ahduni.edu.in in .docx and .pdf form. It is mandatory to email in both format. It must be mailed on or before Friday, 18 December, 2015. Please note that essays will be accepted in Soft copy only and hard copy will not be accepted.
4. The essay should be typed in MS Word with Times New Roman font style. Heading should have font size of 14 and other should have font size of 12. Line spacing should be single, alignment justified and margins should be 1” on left, right, top and bottom. The above formatting guidelines should be strictly adhered to.
5. Your mail should be accompanied by your plagiarism scan report. You will be required to scan your essay through Viper plagiarism scan software. The same can be downloaded following this link. https://www.scanmyessay.com/app-viper/. You should follow the given instructions (scanmyessay.com/viper-use-essay.php) while using this software. Your mail should contain attachment of your Viper Scan report in PDF form.
6. Essays having plagiarism beyond 33% will attract negative markings or resubmissions.
7. The essay must be E-mailed on or before Friday, 18 December, 2015.

Event 2: Extempore

Speech is a very influential medium of expression. Add to it a time limit and the element of doubt. This is where the real challenge comes in as it is a test of purely the speaker’s wit and oratory skills. Extempore tests the participant’s ability to think logically on any subject under the sun, add sufficient depth, wit and wisdom to it, and convey it in a manner that captivates the audience.

Rules:
1. The participant can speak in Gujarati, English or Hindi.
2. Each participant will be given three minutes to think and three minutes to speak on the topic.
3. The participant cannot keep any material with ideas relating to the topic at the time of
speaking. Doing so will lead to negative marking.

Event 3: Group Discussion

Group Discussion consists of a democratic process that can be equated to brain storming where every one respects others’ views and at the same time prevails upon the others by the force and genuineness of his own arguments. Any idea under the Sun is welcome- wilder the idea, the better and there shall be no personal criticism. The outcome of such a discussion is bound to be fruitful.

Rules:
1. The topic will be informed to the participants on or before 5 January 2016.
2. Equal-sized groups of about 7-8 participants will be formed at the time of the competition.
3. The group will be decided as per judges’ criteria and language of expression. The participant has to indicate in participation form the language of participation in Group Discussion.
4. The participants can present their views on the topic in Gujarati, English or Hindi. Each participant in the group will be given 60 seconds to present her / his views in the first round.
5. The participants can debate over their views within the group in the second round.
6. At the end of the second round each participant will be given 30 seconds to conclude his/her debate.
7. There will be moderator’s choice round, rules of which will be announced on day of event.
8. A final round of the top 7-8 participant will also be conducted.

Event 4: Book Review

Reading a same book is a radically different experience for different readers. But comprehending the message and convincing the audience to read the book requires a specific set of skills. If you believe you possess these, this is the perfect platform for you to put them to test.

Rules:
1. The contest will be conducted in two stages. The first stage will be conducted in the college on the day of the event in which students will be asked to write a book review for 45-60 minutes. The word limit for the book review is minimum 600 words and maximum 1000 words.
2. In the second stage ten students will be selected , based on their performance in the written round, to make an oral presentation on the book they have chosen for minimum eight and maximum ten minutes.
3. In both the stages the student can keep the book with them for reference.
4. The book to be reviewed may be selected from the given list which is indicative and not prescriptive. The student may select a book of his/her choice. However, the student has to indicate in the application, the name of book selected for the Book Review along with the author’s name.
5. The language of expression can be English, Gujarati or Hindi.

Event 5: Personality Contest

This event plans to test your assertiveness, presence of mind, analytical and communication skills, and your attitude while facing tough situations. You will be facing a barrage of questions and you will have to stand out from the crowd to show that you have what it takes to win this event.

Rules:
1. The participant has to fill up a questionnaire in her /his own legible handwriting and send it along with the entry form on or before 18 December, 2015.
2. All the participants will have to undergo a personal interview. On the basis of the questionnaire and the interview, the top 10 participants will be chosen to go through the final interview taken by a panel of judges.
