14th Surana & Surana International Technology Law Moot Court & Judgment Writing Competition, 2015:
1. Aim & Purpose:
1.1. The Surana & Surana International Technology Law Moot has been conceived with the aim of creating awareness of the latest technological developments and providing a platform for development of skills required for addressing the techno-legal issues arising out of it.
1.2. The judgment1 writing competition will be a part of Surana & Surana International Technology Law Moot Court Competition with the following principles and purposes:
** 1. A Judgment has a social and civic function besides the primary principle of promoting Rule of Law & upholding justice.
** 2. To achieve the above, it must “have clarity of thought, explain decision to the parties, communicate reasons for the decision to public and provide reason for an appeal court to consider”.2
** 3. To develop a well-balanced judicious mind.
** 4. Prevent abuse of legal process
2. Venue, Date & Subject Matter:
The 14th Surana & Surana International Technology Law Moot Court Competition, 2015 shall be held from August 21, 2015 – August 23, 2015 at Symbiosis Law School, Pune. This year’s case is set on issues relating to International Technology Agreement, Nanotechnology, its medical exploitation and technology transfer.
3. Eligibility:
The competition is open only for students who are pursuing LL.B (three year or five year programme) during the current academic year. To augment technology related research a team have the option of having only one student member (must be an undergraduate) from technology / science discipline (other than law), from any institution approved by the HOD or the Head of the Institution.
4. The Competition Shall Be In English Language.
5. Team Composition:
5.1. The team should consist of three members (including the technology/science student member) i.e. two speakers and one researcher. A team may also consist of only two speakers with the express permission of the Administrators.
5.2. The researcher shall not be allowed to speak except under special circumstances and only with the express permission of the Administrators.
5.3. The identity of the team must not be disclosed to the judges. Any such disclosure shall lead to disqualification under Rule 12.
6. Registration:
6.1. There will be a two-tier Registration Procedure. The participating colleges shall have to register both with ‘Surana& Surana International Attorneys’ and ‘Symbiosis Law School, Pune’. The registration opens on May 14, 2015 (Thursday).
6.2. Registration with Surana & Surana International Attorneys
6.2.1. The teams must register online at www.mootsite.com / www.moot.in by July 18, 2015 (Saturday).
6.2.2. Online registrations shall be open from May 14, 2015. Participants will receive an acknowledgement cum approval as confirmation of their online registration & participation within a week.
6.2.3. A scanned copy of the letter from the participating college / institution / university duly signed by any one of the following authorities: Faculty-incharge for Moot Court Cell/Society/Association, Registrar, Principal, Dean, Director, Chancellor or Vice-Chancellor. The authority must confirm the Names and Year/Semester of the participants who are representing the college / institution / university for the moot competition which will have to be attached during the online registration process (The approval letter shall be printed on the letterhead of the participating institution / college /university alternatively you may use the registration form itself as appended at the end)
6.2.4. Registrations without the scanned copy of the approval letter from the college/institution/ university or duly attested registration form will not be valid.
6.2.5. Once the online registration is done, no change in names will be accepted. However, in exceptional circumstances if a change in name is inevitable a fresh online registration have to be made along with a scanned copy of the approval letter from the college/institution/ university or duly attested registration form clearly explaining the reasons for the change and with authorized signature& seal of the college/ institution / university.
6.3. Registration with Symbiosis Law School, Pune:
6.3.1. The participating colleges are required to email the Soft Copy of the Registration Form annexed here in the rules by July 18, 2015 (Saturday) to surana.moot@symlaw.ac.in
6.3.2. Participants must carry the hard copy with themselves when they arrive for the competition.
6.4. No change in the names of the participants shall be permitted after the receipt of the Registration Form, except at the sole discretion of the Administrators.
